Ask a dog owner how old their pet is and they might give you two numbers—Fluffy's "true" age and her age in "dog years. " The common way of thinking goes that because the life expectancy of an average-sized, medium dog is about one-seventh that of a human, one human year is equivalent to about seven years for dogs. By this measure, a 2-year-old dog is actually 14, a 7-year-old dog is 49, and so on. If this rule seems to simple to be true, that's because it is. The reality is there's no easy trick that churns out the human-age equivalent for all dogs. Thinking about your dog's age in human terms is not only inaccurate, it can also be dangerous when it prevents you from getting them the care they need based on which life stage they're at. According to Jesse Grady, clinical instructor of veterinary medicine at Mississippi State University, the best way to describe a dog's age is to sort it into a category. The chart below takes data from the American Animal Hospital Association Canine Life Stages Guidelines [ PDF], and it's what veterinarians today use to treat their patients.

wow, I just watched it and this is such a great find! thank you so much for digitizing it and posting it. it warms the soul to think of the potential thousands of other projects like this out there waiting to get discovered. some of the people featured in the doc ended up being fairly notable: - the couple at ~11:48 (David Russekoff and Amanda Nuelske) did in fact get married (she joked about him taking his sweet time) but he was ordered in january to pay $10m of back taxes to the state of new york. so that's something. - the bookbinder at ~17:48 (Herb Weitz) was the subject of a 2009 new york times article that is more or less about his relationship with a woman 40+ years his junior. in 2007 john turturro also named him his "favorite new yorker". - personal interest, but the NP with the dachshund (Diane Derkowski) now practices at a hospital in another part of the country that is down the street from where my parents live. - hard to find concrete info, but the bartender/model (Tamara Vandierdonck) at ~33:49 appears to have passed away in the early 2000s.

My boy was a rescue pit who was kenneled from when we got him (age 2, so we're told) until he was 6ish. We ended up having to gate-off the bathroom because his older sister, the stunt queen, taught him to get into the he advanced to the magazines and books in our bathroom reading basket. We had minimal problems. Definitely no escape attempts. Given his genuinely shitty treatment before he lived with us, he knew it wasn't going to get any better away from the house and he acted like its steward. But he did have occasional incidents and he would poop-protest at times, though that was often while we were home. You just need to roll with it and make appropriate corrective action.

If the costs fit your budget, and you're ready to adopt a new best friend, you can start planning with this handy adoption checklist —just don't forget to add a line item for tail wags, and wet-nosed kisses. Luckily, they're priceless and come at no charge.

It's the type you can watch over and over. This led me to read all of Jon Katz's books (movie based on his novel) and they are so good. Jeff Bridges is excellent in this movie but the dog steals the show!! Anyone who loves dogs will adore this. Anyone who just wants a good laugh and great movie will, too. Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2019 Verified Purchase The main character is a total mystery to me. I never got to get to know him. I am glad the dog got better, but I have no idea what the story was supposed to be about. How very boring! Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2020 Verified Purchase I personally felt the movie was a "downer" … main character's depressive mood took away from the scenes that I think were to be amusing - the ending was also "blah" Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2020 Verified Purchase If your a dog lover this story had its moments. But it went absolutely nowhere. Obnoxious self centered man and schizophrenic dog find each other.
