Katherine Pancol 2018
Joséphine is a kind, introverted person who doesn't mind being in someone else's shadow, yet this time she is the in the spotlight and we can understand what a truly fierce character she is. It's a journey through this woman's personal acceptance and growth. "She gazed at the perfect stranger in the mirror. Pleased to meet you. How pretty you look! You seem beautiful and free. I would so love to be like you " This quotation could be considered an act of pure vanity, and, in fact, it is; but Joséphine Cortès, always eclipsed by her sister's beauty, never felt this good about herself. Nowadays, our self-esteem is a target at which people always like to shoot towards. We simply can't let others determine who we are and Jo understood that after "forty-something" years. I would rate this book two over five, due to two main reasons. In the first place, I believe that the author was trying too much. The first book of this saga was about relationships and life, but violence is uselessly introduced in this novel, without an apparent reason or logical link.

"The Slow Waltz of Turtles" is a best-seller written by the Katherine Pancol and the sequel to "The Yellow Eyes of Crocodiles". The author is one of the most well-known French novelist and journalists and sold millions of copies. Joséphine Cortès and her two daughters recently moved to Paris after the historical novel she ghostwrote for her sister Iris had a lot of success. Joséphine is newly divorced and widowed, who tried to move on after her departed husband fled with his mistress to open a crocodile farm in Kenya, but her heart, unfortunately, realized that her soulmate was her brother-in-law. In her new life, already filled with a sister in a hospital, teenage loves, lovers and strange neighbors, the murder factor is added when people in her neighborhood start turning dead. It's a story about a strong woman understanding her life and priorities, which focus on her kids, her job, and love. Both Joséphine's fragile and powerful sides are shown, she's not the kind of heroine that always does and feels what she's supposed to.

Secondly, Pancol tried to make the plot really intricate and complex but didn't succeed, as her writing technique is simple and goes straight to the point. Her attempt to create complexity fails because she's not able to dig enough into the character's souls and creates all of these stories, which she doesn't explore fully. Personally, I think that her writing in this book is dull and simple, which may be because of the translation, but this style is not appropriate for a sentimental book as this attempts to be.
